The Mayor of Lake Haven — Chrysalis features Zeke Reynold, an experienced town detective Marianne Lambert, an old woman barely managing to stay upright, comes up to his counter one evening during what feels like a typical shift. It was Marianne telling him how terrified she was because her friend Eleanor Robertson had disappeared. It has been thirteen years since Eleanor hosted, and we had not heard a word either by letter, telegraph, or anything. With no one to turn to, Marianne pleads with Zeke. Her words reflect her fear and confusion, leaving Zeke no choice but to act quickly. Unbeknownst to him, the disappearance is about to pull him into a darkness deeper than he could have ever imagined for this lost girl’s case.
Zeke wastes no time starting his investigation and has no inkling that his case will begin an utter nightmare, one far worse than he could ever dream. The little town of Lake Haven, long believed to be a tranquil community free from my kind, is blowing up in chaos and violence. Unusual legends, unpleasant rumors, and shady history gradually surface luring Zeke into a maddened whirlwind. By tracing the case, he unearths layers of heretofore hidden secrets that have not-so-nice truths about reality in this town. What should have been a routine question and answer session turns into a harrowing trip, one that Zeke figures out finding Eleanor is only part of the puzzle. What Zeke finds hidden in the city these creatures call home will be more so horrifying than he could have ever imagined, and surviving it may prove just as difficult as cracking the case.
